Oh, how delicious the 1987 Pomerols turned out to be. Given all of the negative press concerning this vintage and the relatively low prices when compared with more recent years, consumers and restaurants looking for immediately drinkable Pomerols would be well advised to reconsider the best 1987s. This soft, spicy, oaky, plum-scented wine has surprisingly good concentration, a round, satiny-smooth texture, and a heady, alcoholic, toasty finish. Drink it over the next 4-6 years. Anticipated maturity: Now. Last tasted, 2/91.
