This vintage marks San Felice's adherence to the Gran Selezione production philosophy. The 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Il Grigio is an elaborate and soothing expression with soft contours and lots of dark cherry fruit that reflect the warm vintage. There are some rough edges that ultimately contribute to the wine's compelling texture and personality. I like the way this wine embraces its contrasts.

This is a classy Chianti Classico with lots of structure and depth plus firm tannins and a blueberry, black cherry and cedar character. Compacted and tight. Superb and complex. Lots going on. An excellent follow-through after the outstanding 2010. Give it two to three years to open.

Tight and powerful, exuding blackberry, black currant, plum, violet and leather flavors. Dense and extracted, finishing with solid tannins. Best from 2017 through 2024.

A fantastic combination of power and finesse, this opens with aromas of under brush, ripe plum, truffle, leather, smoke and a balsamic note. The firm, delicious palate delivers fleshy black cherry, crushed raspberry, cinnamon and mocha. Velvety tannins support the juicy flavors.
