Pinot Noir is not contemplated in any of the appellations of Galicia, and although grown within the limits of Rías Baixas, the 2013 As Covas Pinot Noir carries no appellation. It is a joint-venture between Rodrigo Méndez and Raúl Pérez. 2013 was harvested early; it has a strong vegetal strike in the nose, with aromas of pine needles and a touch of resin, some medicinal and balsamic aromas and a touch of orange peel. The palate lacks some tension and acidity, I was expecting something livelier. It's quite light with subtle flavors and a pleasant finish. Some 550 bottles were produced.
