The 2006 Vertigo also performed even better this year. A blend of 90% Syrah and 10% Grenache, it possesses an inky/purple color, blackberry, pen ink, smoke, and floral characteristics, peppery, spicy, underbrush-like flavors, and a full-bodied, supple, more accessible style than the Alchemist. The 2006 Vertigo should drink well for 8-10 years.
Booker Vineyard, a 40-acre vineyard planted on limestone soils just west of Highway 101, continues to strut its stuff after its impressive debut in 2005. I retasted several of the 2006s I had last year, and the ratings were slightly elevated.
