The dense purple-colored 2007 Vertigo, a blend of 75% Syrah and 25% Grenache, exhibits the blackberry and creme de cassis characteristics of Syrah along with new saddle leather, coffee, and graphite, a certain minerality, and a long, velvety, opulent mouthfeel. It, too, should drink well for a decade.
Booker Vineyard, a 40-acre vineyard planted on limestone soils just west of Highway 101, continues to strut its stuff after its impressive debut in 2005. I retasted several of the 2006s I had last year, and the ratings were slightly elevated.
