This wine is of compelling concentration and attention-getting power. This wine sees 100% new oak (50% American and 50% French). It is hugely-extracted, black purple-colored, totally unevolved wine. The 1997 Petite Sirah Marston Vineyard has a small amount of fruit (25%) from the Hayne Vineyard added to the blend. This wine boasts phenomenal intensity, massive body, and a boat-load of tannin and glycerin. A huge example, it will not become civilized for another 5-6 years. It should keep for 20-25 years. To my surprise, Beringer is making Syrah and Petite Syrah ... and doing an impressive job with both. Only several hundred cases are made of each, and these wines are likely to be sold only at the winery.Tel. (707) 963-7115; Fax (707) 963-1735
