The 2007 Hispano Suizas Superius is a blend of 30% Bobal, 30% Cabernet Franc, 20% Syrah, and 20% Merlot aged for 30 months in French oak. Aromas of pain grille, pencil lead, spice box, plum, and blackberry are followed by a dense, concentrated, full-flavored, lengthy offering with 3-4 years of aging potential. It offers a drinking window extending from 2014 to 2027. The Bodegas Hispano Suizas project began in 1999 and consists of 55 hectares (121 acres) in Requena in the inland portion of the Valencia region. The 2006 Superius is a blend of Bobal (indigenous to Utiel Requena), Cabernet Franc, Syrah, and Merlot aged for 30 months in French oak. It delivers a remarkably complex bouquet of exotic spices, incense, lavender, smoke, and assorted black fruits. On the palate it is dense and rich with layers of spicy fruit, a voluptuous character, and a lengthy, fruit-filled finish. A wine like this has no track record but it appears to have the structure to evolve for several years and should easily drink well for a decade or more.
