The Montrachet-like 2004 Chardonnay Ashley’s Vineyard (made with a Mt. Eden clone of Chardonnay) displays a liquid-like minerality as well as unbelievably broad, intense flavors of white currants, peaches, subtle honey, and orange blossoms. Super-rich and long with great definition, this cool climate effort is a fabulous example of a remarkably nuanced and complex Chardonnay. It should be consumed over the next 10-12 years.Tel. A Batard-Montrachet look-alike, the 2003 Chardonnay Ashley’s Vineyard (from a top site owned by Fess Parker) boasts a light gold color as well as a honeyed pineapple, tangerine, lemon butter, and mango-scented perfume. More exotic than its siblings as well as dense and full-bodied with terrific acidity, fruit, and persistence, this expansive, powerful, beautifully delineated effort should age gracefully for a decade. The 2002 Chardonnay Ashley’s Vineyard exhibits a light straw/green color, notes of white currants, peaches, crushed rocks, tight, zesty acidity, and a hint of hazelnuts. A prominent terroir character is reminiscent of a youthful grand cru white Burgundy such as Corton-Charlemagne. Give it 1-2 years of bottle age, and drink it over the following 8-12.
