This is a cozy and genuine wine made with fruit from old vines. The Bruno Rocca 2018 Barbera d'Alba opens to a velvety and richly saturated appearance. The aromas are focused for the most part on dark fruit, blackberry, sweet cherry and spice. This elegantly concentrated Barbera delivers a powerful 15% alcoholic content, and the winemaking process gives it 12 months to age in French oak. The wine finishes on a slightly sweet note with more cherry or blackberry preserves.

The 2016 Barbera d'Alba is made with fruit from old vines. It shows an extra dark appearance and thick extraction as a result. This was a cool vintage with soft breezes in the vineyards that helped to safeguard the fruit from disease. The winemaking team was careful to harvest in time without letting the fruit dry on the vine. Barbera tends to show jammy notes very quickly if attention is not paid. Instead, here you get bright aromas of black cherry and plum.

This warm vintage is well suited to the heat-loving Barbera grape. The 2015 Barbera d'Alba is a soft and plush red wine with a fleshy consistency and opulent flavors of black cherry and plum. This vintage reveals better balance that most, and the wine is articulate and expressive as a result. Some 9,000 bottles were produced.

The Bruno Rocca 2014 Barbera d'Alba is a beautiful, full and generous expression of Piedmont's most food-friendly grape. In immediate Pavlovian response, I wanted to order a take-out pizza when I taste this wine. Dark fruit is enhanced by mineral notes and sweet cherry flavors.
