The 2008 Valpolicella Classico Superiore Il Ruffiano impresses for its juiciness, persistence and fine overall balance. Sweet dark cherries, flowers, mint and spices wrap around the palate as this sensual, overt Valpolicella opens up in the glass. The 2008 is relatively understated, in keeping with the nature of the year, but its balance is first-rate. The 2008 is 50% Corvina, 20% Corvinone, 25% Rondinella and 5% Croatina. The 2007 Valpolicella Classico Superiore Il Ruffiano is a blend of Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella harvested and vinified along traditional lines. Dark wild cherries, licorice, leather, earthiness, blueberries and minerals are some of the notes that flow from this medium to full-bodied, hearty red. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2015.
