I love the nose of the 2014 Gran Reserva, all incense, cigar box, spices and ash and a polished palate but with lively acidity, perhaps reflecting a challenging and rainy harvest, and 13.5% alcohol, denoting freshness. It's mostly Tempranillo with 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo selected from their Finca El Estanque estate; it matured in barrel for two years. 45,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in 2019.

The 2012 Gran Reserva comes with the golden net and the full monty, a very classical label and a light Burgundian bottle, produced with the canonical blend of 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo from their estate vineyards. It fermented in stainless steel and matured in French and American oak barrels for 24 months. There are some creamy sensations intermixed with notes of red fruit and sweet spices, developing some tertiary and complex notes already. The palate reveals flavors of very traditional Rioja but clean and not excessively oaky. The tannins are very fine and provide chalkiness to the texture. The bottles are kept for a minimum of three years before they are released. 42,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in 2016, like the wines from yesteryear.

The canonical 2010 Gran Reserva is classic, polished and balanced, sleek and subtle, with developed aromas and fully resolved tannins. This is a great introduction to the category from a very good, balanced year and at an unbelievable price for the age and quality. It's a blend of 85% Tempranillo, 10% Graciano and 5% Mazuelo. 47,000 bottles produced. This was bottled back in 2015.

The 2008 Gran Reserva feels very polished and developed, with plenty of tertiary aromas of sandalwood, incense, tobacco leaves, cured meat and a core of berries. The palate shows a wine that has resolved its tannins, has integrated the acidity and feels very silky and compact. It has a tasty finish. 50,000 bottles.

The 2005 Gran Reserva has a nice bright ruby color and a developed balsamic nose of leather, cedar wood, sweet spices, blonde tobacco, smoked meat and cherries in liqueur. It has fully resolved tannins in a wine that is completely polished, more on the light side of the Gran Reservas, which is drinking well today. Drink 2014-2016. This historical name from Haro has been owned by the Vivanco family since 2002 and they are making great efforts to revive the name and improve the quality of the wines. They are on the right path.
