Made with no added sulfites, as is recorded on the front label, the Castello dei Rampolla 2020 Trebianco di S. Lucia opens to a darkish copper color and orange highlights. Made in amphorae, the nose is neutral with subtle hints of beeswax, candied fruit and dried apricot that denote an oxidative winemaking style. As the wine opens in the glass, you will appreciate hints of flowery tea leaf and some lingering nuttiness. Skin contact gives this white wine a unique sense of tannic firmness and structure. The blend is Trebbiano, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Traminer.

The Castello dei Rampolla 2019 Trebianco di S. Lucia (made without added sulfites) is a blend of Trebbiano, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Traminer. This is a raw and authentic white that smells of the purity of the grapes, and the soils of Tuscany scooped up into your hands on a warm sunny day. The wine is redolent of orchard fruit, honey, dried apricot, saffron spice and waxy apple or pear. Background notes of baked terracotta, crushed rock and even a touch of brown sugar appear in moderation. This white wine has the texture and fiber to pair with fried chicken or filet di baccalà (codfish sticks).

Made without sulfites, the 2017 Trebianco di S. Lucia is 50% Trebbiano, 20% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Chardonnay and Traminer. The wine opens to a dark golden color with yellow amber highlights. The bouquet shows natural fermentation aromas of candied peach, honey and beeswax. You get dry mineral notes as well with crushed white stone and talc powder. All the grapes are fermented together in jars made with white clay. The wine continues its brief aging in those same vessels. This is a robust and textured white wine that should hold steady for the next few years. Only 1,200 bottles were made.
