Despite weighing in at only 50% Grenache—the rest is 28% Syrah, 20% Mourvèdre and 2% Muscardin—the 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape boasts expressive aromas of raspberry sherbet, citrus zest, Campari-like herbs and ripe strawberries. Full-bodied, creamy and supple, it does turn a bit tannic and green-herbal on the finish.

The 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape is a blend of 50% Grenache, 20% each Mourvèdre and Syrah, with the remaining 10% a mix of Cinsault, Muscardin and Terret Noir. Dark and earthy, it delivers notes of cola, cocoa and dried spices rather than bright fruit. Drink this full-bodied, velvety wine over the next 6-7 years.

Not yet bottled, La Gardine's 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape looks extremely promising. Jammy cherry and raspberry notes lead the way in this full-bodied, creamy-textured beauty. Aside from a hint of confection, it's on point, finishing ripe, supple and layered. It's the best wine I can remember trying from this estate.

La Gardine's 2015 Chateauneuf du Pape is only 50% Grenache, which perhaps accounts for why it shows off more pretty spice notes than cherry fruit. This full-bodied wine's tannins are supple, and the wine draws to a close with echoes of cinnamon and allspice. Drink it over the next decade.

Beautifully perfumed, the 2014 Chateauneuf du Pape offers ample cassis and black raspberry-like nuances as well as medium-bodied richness, fine, polished tannin, outstanding purity of fruit and a great finish. Like most 2014s, it’s already drinking great, but I suspect it will see its 10th birthday in fine form.
