The young and fruit-driven 2015 Joven de Silos shows high ripeness, a juicy palate and some fine tannins. Very pleasant. 115,000 bottles.

The young and unoaked 2014 Joven needs some aeration to reveal notes of strawberry and licorice. Lush and fruit-driven with unnoticeable tannins, it has some characteristics that reminded me of the good old carbonic maceration wines. Fresh and very pleasant. It's great to find another pleasant, true 'joven.' 105,000 bottles.

The 2013 Joven de Silos is from a very difficult vintage that meant a lot of sorting and up to 35% of the grapes discarded. It has a reductive profile too often found in the Tempranillos from Ribera that have aged for a short time in barrel. It benefits from energetic decanting, showing notes of red and black fruit, plums and licorice and a hint of spices. The palate is fresh and medium-bodied, with light tannins and a slightly bitter finish. Drink now. Cillar de Silos is a brilliant family project from the Aragon family from Quintana de Pidio, in the Burgos province where they work their 68 hectares of vineyards ranging from 10 to 90 years of age. The 2011 Joven de Silos is a pure Tempranillo that sports dark cherry and crushed violets on the nose. The unoaked 2010 Cillar Joven displays an enticing perfume of minerals, violets, and blackberry. Layered on the palate with plenty of spicy and savory fruit, this nicely balanced, forward effort finishes with no hard edges. Drink this excellent value over the next 3-4 years.
