The 2011 Jaspi Negre is a blend of 45% Garnacha, 25% Carinena, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Syrah aged for a short time in oak and then matured for one year in concrete vats. It is extremely balsamic and spicy, with notes of eucalyptus, mint, licorice, black olives and even hints of petrol. The palate is a little bit aggressive, with some harsh tannins that need taming, and an unusual set of flavors. A red of strong personality that left me scratching my head. Drink 2015-2017.
This is the project of brothers Toni and Miquel Coca i Fito from a winegrowing family from Penedes. Toni Coca is a known oenologist who advises some 25 different wineries in the region. The wines come through as a little overworked and with a strong influence from the elevage.
