The 2000 Cado is a blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz. For the price, this is a rather powerful, structured wine that makes you think it is in another price category. That was the good news. However, it opened with some prunes on the nose. A second bottle showed just a hint of this, but the nuance was still there. The acidity is very prominent, making the wine seem tart. Give this about twenty minutes of air, and you will be better served. Despite the power it provides for the modest money, I could not warm up to this acidic, rather charmless wine. Drink now-2008. Founded in 1999 and formally registered as “Sociedade Agricola da Quinta do Romeira de Cima,” this company trades under the umbrella name Companhia das Quintas (literally, “the Estates Company”), signifying its acquisition and ownership of six Quintas in various regions, the latest acquisition being Quinta de Pancas. As the formal name implies, they are headquartered at Quinta do Romeira, an estate with roots going back to the early 17th century.Importer for Cado: Signature Imports, Mansfield, MA; tel: (800) 667-0750.
