A hint of stuck match appears on the nose of the 2019 Saint Peray Les Figuiers, along with notes of pear and citrus. A barrel-fermented 60-40 blend of Roussanne and Marsanne, it's medium-bodied, streamlined and silky textured, with bright, lime-like flavors on the long finish. Still youthfully tight, this seems like it could drink well for more than the typical 2-3 years.

One of the standouts in my Saint Peray blind tasting was the 2016 Saint Peray Les Figuiers from Gripa. This plump, medium to full-bodied blend of 60% Roussanne and 40% Marsanne starts with aromas of pineapple and cream, then offers a succulent mouthfeel framed by oak spice and a long, mouthwatering finish. It should be capable of aging up to 5 years, maybe more.

Coming from an appellation that’s on the upswing, the 2015 Saint Péray les Figuiers reveals more minerality and saltiness, as well as gorgeous notes of white flowers, white peach, crushed rocks and a touch of brioche. Crisp, clean, taut and with sensational precision, it’s easily the finest white from St Péray for Gripa.

One of the superstars from Saint Péray is the 2014 Saint Péray Les Figuiers. Fabrice’s smallest production Saint Péray and mostly Marsanne, it has beautiful pineapple, quince, white flowers and a kiss of honey on the nose. These carry to a medium to full-bodied, fresh, focused white that has plenty of richness and depth. The Saint Péray releases never have the sheer depth and richness found in the top Saint Joseph Blancs and Hermitage Blancs, but they always show beautiful minerality and cut. This beauty will drink nicely for a decade.

Also Marsanne and Roussanne, yet seeing a touch more new oak, the 2013 Saint Péray Les Figuiers offers terrific citrus, tangerine and subtle minerality in its medium-bodied, vibrant and lively style. Perfectly balanced, fresh, clean and pure, drink it over the coming couple of years.
