A mostly foudre-aged blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah, the 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape features resinous notes of garrigue balanced against black cherries and plums. Full-bodied, rich, concentrated and tannic but ripe, it turns silky on the finish. Give it a few years to soften up a bit.

Standard stuff, done well, the 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape is an 80-20 blend of Grenache and Syrah, aged mostly in foudres. Ripe cherries mark the nose, joined by hints of dried spices and a hint of tapenade. Full-bodied and velvety in texture, it should drink well for up to a decade.
