Aromas of wild berries, peonies, orange rind, loamy soil and exotic spices introduce the 2020 échezeaux Grand Cru, a full-bodied, velvety and seamless wine that's rich and powerful, with a layered, concentrated core of vibrant fruit framed by powdery tannins and lively acids. Long and expansive, Felettig once again lamented that his holdings (located in lieu-dit Les Treux) were only planted in 2001, but already yields are declining precipitously as the rootstocks suffer in hotter, drier vintages.

Felettig produced 400 liters of the 2019 échezeaux Grand Cru, and it's his best to date, blossoming in the glass with a deep bouquet of wild berries, plums, exotic spices, rose petals and bergamot. Full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, it's a deep, textural wine, with considerable concentration, lively acids and a broad-shouldered chassis of powdery tannin. Scents of wild berries, cherries, spices, candied peel and smoked tea introduce the 2018 échezeaux Grand Cru, a full-bodied, layered and muscular wine that's succulent and concentrated, built around a broad-shouldered chassis of rich but ripe tannin. This is another of the more reserved wines in the cellar, and I look forward to revisiting it from bottle. Readers may remember that Felettig's holdings are located in Les Treux and that he planted this parcel in 2001.

Unfurling in the glass with aromas of sweet raspberries, cherries, licorice and spices, the 2017 échezeaux Grand Cru is full-bodied, broad and lively, with fine structuring tannins that are largely concealed behind an impressively bright, vibrant core of fruit. This is also showing well, and it's likely to prove a comparatively immediate, front-loaded example of Felettig's lone grand cru.
