The 2010 Veriki is the latest iteration of this 50/50 Chardonnay and Robola blend. Next to the 2009, retasted this issue, it obviously seems more vibrant on opening, with a bit of flint, a nuance that blew off. It seems fairly full in the mouth and probably a bit bigger and more vibrant than the 2009 – certainly at this point in their respective developments – but not necessarily as charming. The 2009 Veriki (a 50/50 Chardonnay and Robola blend), revisited this issue just for a quick check-in, is well integrated now. It is at peak now, although it should hold for a few more years. Tinged by a bit of grapefruit and a touch of grass, it remains bright and sunny, although a touch more subdued and better integrated now, and also, in its more sedate form, not quite as interesting frankly, although still fine. What makes this different than the general run of the mill white is, I think, the subtle viscosity, its texture as it warms up slightly and airs out. It seems easy to drink on opening and on release – but it shows surprising persistence. It drinks well, with both some solidity and personality, a combination not many have. Drink now-2014. The 2006 VERIKI is a 50-50 Chardonnay/Robola blend. It has fine body, a feeling of substance and gravitas, and some grassy nuances that become apparent after it warms up and airs out. You don’t notice the acid at first because of the wine’s depth and mouthfeel, but there is a crisp, mouthwatering finish. An hour after opening, it is still fresh, fruity, flavorful and persistent. This is well priced and a wine that should be able to hold for a few years. The blend is unusual, but the more I drank it, the more I liked it. It grows on you—a good sign. Note: Although I do not believe the 2007 will be available in the USA, I feel constrained to note that the 2007 Veriki samples I saw showed some problems and did not show nearly as well as the 2006.
