Fallers' 2006 Gewurztraminer Furstentum Cuvee Laurence incorporates hints of mushroom such as were found in their Pinot Gris offerings of the vintage, here allied to classic litchi, rose petal, and bacon fat. Subtly creamy in texture yet preserving the sense of primary juiciness and clarity that unexpectedly mark the majority of Weinbach 2006 wines of its grape, this introduces peat, fruit it, chalk, saline, and bitter dark chocolate notes that offer complex counterpoint to the finishing sweetness and sense of liquid perfume. It can be counted on for a polished performance over the next half a dozen years - and perhaps even significantly longer, although it should be monitored closely. This year, Domaine Weinbach will receive its official certification as organic and biodynamic growers. The Fallers did well in the difficult 2006 vintage - especially with those Gewurztraminer harvested before botrytis gained the upper hand - and with good reason expressed elation over the vibrancy and refinement that characterizes most of 2007s.Importer: Vineyard Brands, Birmingham, AL; tel.
