Unfurling in the glass with aromas of wheat toast, crisp green orchard fruit, white peach and subtle hints of nutmeg, as well as a touch of youthful struck match, Sauzet's 2017 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Garenne is medium to full-bodied, satiny but incisive, with a lively but envelopingly textural profile, excellent concentration and tension at the core, and a long, delicately chalky finish. This saw a very judicious 25% new wood and is shaping up to be one of the finest renditions of this cuvée that I've tasted.
