The 2011 Tresor is a strong effort in this frustratingly irregular vintage. It offers a dense ruby/purple color as well as a fresh, lively, black currant and black cherry-scented bouquet displaying a touch of incense and background oak. The wine hits the palate with an impressive display of rich, ripe, pure fruit, no hollowness or herbaceousness, well-integrated wood, and a medium to full-bodied, stylish, complex mouthfeel. Cellar this young, promising 2011 red for a few years and drink it over the following 10-15 years.
Ferrari-Carano appears to have the correct formula for Fume Blanc. Perhaps I am a bit sentimental as it was my Mother’s favorite wine, and was the only wine with which I could ever get her slightly buzzed. The red wines include the flagship Tresor, always a blend of their finest lots of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Merlot.
