The 2019 Chardonnay Ashley's Vineyard features delicate, gently toasty apple fruit with flinty nuances. The light-bodied palate is soft and tangy with delicate nutty flavors and a refreshing finish.

Shy on the nose with toast and smoke to begin, the 2017 Chardonnay Ashley's Vineyard slowly opens to lemon pith, Red Delicious apple, dried hay and white apricot. It's citrusy and minerally in the mouth and light to medium-bodied, with juicy acidity and a textured finish.

I struggled to appreciate the 2016 Chardonnay Ashley's Vineyard, which offers up aromas of honey, pecan pie and baked apples, followed by a fat, gloopy palate with lots of lees-derived texture combined with oddly tart acidity. Chardonnay would appear to have struggled here in 2016.

The 2015 Chardonnay Ashley's Vineyard opens with lemon curd, white grapefruit and yuzu scents over suggestions of allspice, croissant and honeysuckle. The elegant, medium-bodied palate offers plenty of zesty citrus and spice layers, with a nice touch of silkiness and good length.

Always one of my favorite whites from Fess Parker, the 2014 Chardonnay Ashley’s Vineyard is primarily from the Rancho Las Hermanas Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills (all sandy soils) and is barrel-fermented and aged nine months in 30% new French oak. Ripe peach orchard fruits and tons of salty minerality emerge from this fleshy, textured, medium-bodied Chardonnay that has a great mix of richness and freshness. Drink over the coming 2-4 years.
