The 2018 Chardonnay Mountain Estate Vineyard has open-knit aromas of baked apples, chamomile, almonds, baker’s yeast and an herbal tone. Medium-bodied, the palate is silky and gently savory, with good freshness and a leesy touch, finishing uplifted.

The 2017 Chardonnay Mountain Estate Vineyard was harvested September 6-18 and aged 16 months in 45% new French oak. It has a pretty nose of yellow apple, bitter orange, hazelnut and spring honey with a vein of crushed rock/saline, warm white peaches, hay and lemon curd. Medium to full-bodied, it has a good core of savory fruit, juicy acidity and a long, mineral-driven finish. 434 cases produced.

The 2016 Chardonnay Mountain Estate Vineyard has an explosive nose of fresh pineapple, guava and lemon meringue pie with lime blossom, mandarin peel and honeysuckle nuances plus wafts of beeswax and baking bread. Medium to full-bodied, the palate follows through on everything the nose promised, offering layer upon layer of tropical, citrus and savory flavors, featuring an electric backbone and long, satisfyingly creamy finish. Wow. 428 cases produced.

The 2014 Chardonnay Mountain Estate from an Old Wente clone and aged in 50% new French oak is full-bodied with beautiful notes of tangerine oil, orange marmalade, lemon custard, brioche, white peach and pineapple. There is some underlying wet gravel, giving it a stunning minerality. This is a beauty to drink over the next 5-7 years.

The 2013 Chardonnay Mountain Estate Vineyard shows slightly crisper acids, a more close-to-the-vest style, with notes of white currants, quince, wet stones and a touch of white peach. The wine is medium-bodied and seems to offer up loads of fruit, but in a zestier, slightly less dramatic style than its 2012 counterpart. It could be only a question of being a year younger.
