The 2009 Nebbiolo d’Alba Valmaggiore is laced with dried cherries, tobacco, incense, crushed flowers and herbs. It possesses lovely textural depth and volume not to mention commendable overall balance. The aromas and flavors are a touch forward, which suggests the wine needs to be enjoyed sooner rather than later. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017.
Ferruccio Grimaldi is best known for his Baroli, but I often find plenty of character in his entry-level wines as well.
