It appears that Heggies’ whites are Burgundy-inspired given their interesting textures and complex aromatics. For example, the 2004 Viognier was fermented in barrel with indigenous yeasts, and enjoyed the stirring of the lees procedure that the French call batonage. It is a complex, smoky, exotic Viognier from cool sites, hence the stunning bouquet of apricot jam, white currants, litchi nuts, and minerals. Stylish, medium to full-bodied, and exceptionally well-delineated, with power as well as elegance, it should drink well for 12-18 months. Importer: Negociants, USA, Napa CA; tel. (707) 259-0993
