Made with the addition of 4% Merlot and 3% Malbec and aged for 21 months in French oak barrels, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Champoux Vineyard opens to a gorgeous nose of chocolate-covered cherries, dusty plum, vanilla and baking spices with a green herbaceous hint under the fruit. Medium to full-bodied, flavors of dusty red cherry skin, currant and cassis linger with elements of roasted red bell pepper. Displaying a balanced structure and lifting tannins, the wine is full of life, food-friendly and precise. Ending with a lingering finish, this Cabernet is sure to deliver pleasure over the next 10 years. Just over 4,300 bottles were produced.

The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Champoux Vineyard displays ripe dark fruits, a floral dustiness and herbal undercurrent on the nose, with added complexity from the pleasingly subtle yet defined oak tones. Full-bodied, the palate has a rich and ripe core of fruit with a dusty herbal edge and is balanced and complex, with a layered and structured expression across the mid-palate. The wine is focused, with energetic acidity and enlivening, firm supporting tannins, finishing long. Wow, this is simply delicious. I’m going to steal away another sip. 364 cases were produced.

Wafting from the glass with aromas of black currants and blueberries, framed by creamy new oak, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Champoux Vineyard is medium-bodied, layered and velvety, with well-integrated tannins, good depth at the core and a flavorful finish. It's much more successful than the Champoux Merlot this year.

Coming from unquestionably one of the great terroirs of Washington State, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Champoux Vineyard checks in as a blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Malbec and 1% Merlot. Plums, violets, sweet vanilla bean and crème de cassis notes all emerge from this sexy, sweetly fruited effort that has ripe tannin, no hard edges and loads to love.

Januik’s 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Champoux Vineyard offers terrific, complex notes of lavender, graphite, cassis and sweet oak in a medium to full-bodied, elegant, balanced package. I love its aromatics, but like a lot of these 2013s, it’s streamlined, narrow and shorter than I expected. Nevertheless, it has ripe tannin and I’m sure will drink nicely for at least a decade.
