My favorite wine from Lafond is the 2002 Chardonnay Sweeney Canyon. This impressive effort boasts a terrific texture as well as big, buttery, orange, citrus, and mineral characteristics that suggest a Batard-Montrachet from Burgundy. Elaborately oaked, and opens with a smooth waft of buttered toast, smoky char and vanilla. There are hints of fruit in the aroma, but it’s on the palate that the flavors really hit.
