The 2009 Marques del Campo has been aging in new French oak. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it sports an alluring nose of toasty oak, mineral, violets, espresso, spice box, and blackberry. It is the most structured of the Ribera del Duero offerings with enough fine-grained tannin (and lively acidity) to evolve for 3-4 years. Savory, ripe, and plush bordering on opulent, this lengthy offering will deliver peak drinking from 2014 to 2029. At the asking price, it is also an outstanding value from the pricy DO of Ribera del Duero.Majuelos de Espana, headed by Felipe Alvarez, is a negociant group whose grape growers and winemakers are devoted to recovering old Majuelos (Vineyards) across Spain. Majuelos de Espana’s offerings from Ribera del Duero are all barrel samples of 100% Tinta Fine (Tempranillo) from the great 2009 vintage.Importer: Felipe Alvarez, Majuelos de Espana, www.majuelos.com
