Another gorgeous effort that knocks it out of the park is the 2013 Syrah Larner Vineyard. Made from 100% Syrah that saw a little less than half stems and 16 months in barrel (45% new), its deep ruby/purple color is followed by sensational notes of loamy earth, blackberries, bouquet garni and olive tapenade. Pure, polished, seamless and full-bodied, with beautiful tannin quality, it's already hard to resist, yet its impeccable balance will keep it evolving gracefully through at least 2023.

Fermented with 40% whole cluster in open-top bins and aged 22 months in 265- and 228-liter barrels, the 2012 Syrah Larner Vineyard is a medium to full-bodied, complete, balanced and structured effort that gives up lots of peppery, meaty and dark fruit aromas and flavors. Nicely textured and mouth filling, yet also with some tannic grip on the finish, it should be at its best from 2017-2024.

A firm, mineral-drenched Syrah that shows loads of whole cluster and stem influences, McPrice’s 2010 Syrah Larner Vineyard offers a deep ruby/purple color to go with notions of smoked black and red raspberries, gunpowder, freshly ground pepper and searing chalky minerality. Full-bodied, pure, fresh and delineated, with superb richness, it is a gorgeous effort that needs 2-3 years in the cellar and will shine for just under a decade. Drink 2015-2020. These 2010s and 2011s from McPrice are straight up fantastic. Very classy and pure, they all benefitted from substantial air time and deserve another year or two in the cellar. In addition to delivering rock-star quality, they also represent superb values. This is another Paso Robles producer who has consistently produced outstanding wines that remain more than reasonably priced given their quality. They merit serious attention! Tel. The 2009 Syrah Larner boasts tons of richness and depth. Firm tannins support the fruit in this powerful, juicy Syrah. There isn’t a ton of varietal character in the glass, but readers who like the opulent, fruit-driven side of Syrah will find much to admire here. Sleek, silky tannins frame the finish. The 2009 was fermented with 40% whole clusters and aged for 22 months in French oak barrels, 60% new. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2019. I found a lot to like in these new releases from McPrice Myers.
