Verdelho is a potent variety and can make an impact in a blend with as little as 5% in the mix. So, when we drink varietal Verdelho, it can often be an intense experience. The 2021 The Violinist Verdelho is tropical and round, with salted pineapple, toffee, apple, honeydew melon, apricot and brine. Texturally, the wine is soft and plump—cushioned even. I'd suggest that the later pick (evident via the 15.5% alcohol on the label) has imbued the wine with a fatness, breadth and volume of fruit rather than an overt alcohol sensation, although it does plume at the back of the mouth and throat. This is a distinct style and executed well.
