The 2020 Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru Clos du Chapitre delivers a rich bouquet of creamy berry fruit, cassis, spices and vanilla pod, followed by a medium to full-bodied, velvety and vibrant palate that's attractively seamless, concluding with a long, lively finish.

Firmer than Anne Morey's wines from Volnay and Pommard, the 2019 Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru Clos du Chapitre is nevertheless unusually elegant this year, delivering scents of cherries, plums, spices and loamy soil, followed by a medium to full-bodied, lively and mineral profile.

Aromas of cherries, cassis and plums, complemented by rich bass notes of dark chocolate and loamy soil, introduce the 2018 Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru Clos du Chapitre, a medium to full-bodied, firm and muscular wine, its deep core of concentrated fruit structured around an ample chassis of youthfully chewy tannin. This is a powerful, old-school Aloxe with plenty of stuffing, but it will demand patience.

The malolactic fermentation had only just finished on the 2015 Aloxe Corton 1er Cru Clos du Chapitre, so the aromatics were just a little disjointed when I tasted it from barrel. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, a little rustic and coarse at the moment with decent depth coming through on the finish. Give it a year or two once in bottle and my assessment might seem harsh in hindsight.

The 2014 Aloxe Corton Clos du Chap?tre 1er Cru from Morey Blanc has a lovely red cherry and wild strawberry-scented bouquet that you might think comes from further north in say, Nuits-Saint-Georges. The palate has impressive substance, real weight and persistence in the mouth. There is plenty of juicy, slightly peppery red fruit with the new oak tangible on the finish, but singing from the same hymn sheet. Delicious -- no more, no less.
