The 2008 Pinot Noir Nefarious has an interesting story. I asked Ms. Green if she was aware that there is a winery in Lake Chelan, Washington named Nefarious Cellars. Apparently when the cuvee was bottled and labeled, she was unaware of its existence. Soon enough she heard from the folks at Nefarious and then negotiated a deal that this would be a one-time bottling, and she sent them a case of the wine. Great deal for Nefarious Cellars because Green’s Nefarious Pinot Noir is one of the stars of a great vintage. It offers up a sexy perfume of exotic spices, underbrush, and wild berries. More structured than its siblings, it has boatloads of succulent fruit backed by ripe tannin and lively acidity. Impeccably balanced and built to age, it will lavishly reward those with enough delay of gratification to cellar it for 6-8 years. It will offer prime drinking from 2015 to 2028.
Veteran vigneron Patricia (Patty) Green was the original winemaker at Torii Mor before purchasing the old Autumn Wind Winery in 2000 along with partner Jim Anderson and renaming it Patricia Green Cellars. Current production stands at 10,000 cases with distribution in 20 states. All of the Patricia Green wines are fermented naturally, see about one-third new oak, and only Cadus barrels are used in the cellar. The Patricia Green 2008 Pinot Noirs range from outstanding to sublime in quality.
