The 2009 Tinto “Simply” is a blend of Aragonez and Trincadeira, fermented in tank. A bit funky on the nose on opening, it comes around rather well, showing nice fruit, with a touch of steel and a bit of tannin. There is not a lot of concentration, but for a wine named “simply,” it drinks rather well. Drink now-2014. Winemaker Paulo Laureano is no stranger to these reports, of course, but these wines are the first of these brands reviewed. Tasting through them in the USA, I found them overall to be very well done, the one caveat being the pricing on the upper level wines. At the other extreme, the entry level Branco is a nice deal.Importer: The Artisan Collection, New York, NY; tel. (212) 608-0722.
