The supple, smoothly-textured 1994 Elegia exhibits copious quantities of toasty new oak as well as jammy, red berry fruit. It is a medium-bodied, soft, elegant, lush wine for drinking over the next 4-5 years. This excellent winery has fashioned spicy, sweet, round, rich wines that offer plenty of black-cherry fruit intermixed with earth, leather, dried fruits, and spices. Poliziano's 1988 Elegia, made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, was aged in new oak casks. This dark ruby/purple-colored wine is immensely impressive. It is made in a Bordeaux style, with its fragrant vanillin, toasty, cassis-scented aromas, medium to full-bodied flavors, superb extraction of fruit, moderate tannins, and long, intense finish. This world-class Cabernet Sauvignon should age extremely well for at least a decade. My first look at the three current offerings from Poliziano left a memorable impression.
