The organic Quercia al Poggio 2018 Chianti Classico Riserva is not as soft or opulent as the 2017 vintage that I tasted at the same time. Indeed, this wine remains closed in comparison. However, there is a nice mix of aromas here with dark fruit, campfire ash, toast and crushed mineral. It strays away from the proverbial primary colors of Chianti Classico and rests with the more muted tones instead.

The organic 2017 Chianti Classico Riserva is definitely recognized by hot-vintage sweetness and softness with flavors of strawberry preserves and plum tart. Thankfully, even when Chianti Classico sees a hot vintage, it never really develops those openly jammy and heavy aromas that you might get in a lower-elevation appellation or in one that is closer to the sea. This wine shows supple roundness and some extra tannic bite.

Made with organic fruit, the Quercia al Poggio 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva opens to dark berries and balanced spice, showing the hard work in both the vineyard and the winery that shaped this Riserva from a classic vintage. The wine is nicely balanced with a very elegant and soft side to Sangiovese expressed with wild cherry, cassis, blue flower, spice and a dusting of cinnamon.

Showing an aged or evolved set of aromas, the 2012 Chianti Classico Riserva is made with organically farmed fruit. The wine exhibits a dark garnet color with copper highlights. The bouquet offers dried cherry, black currant, spice, rosemary and licorice. The total effect shows sharp and rustic points with bright acidity on the mid-weight finish. I would not wait too much longer before drinking this wine.
