This gorgeous wine draws its fruit from a seven-hectare vineyard near the village of Lapio. The Quintodecimo 2021 Fiano di Avellino Exultet is layered with minty apple, poached pear and wild fennel, or finocchietto in Italian. The aromas are delivered with elegant and discreet intensity, and you can count on a lasting end note of salinity or crushed mineral that gives framing and contouring to the pretty primary fruit. Thanks to careful aging on the lees, the wine offers a naked and faithful portrait of the Fiano grape. Distant powdering of crushed white pepper or licorice root appear on the extremely silky, medium-textured finish.

An extra year of bottle age goes a long way to flesh out and open this impressive Fiano. With fruit from a high elevation growing site in Lapio at 570 meters above sea level on calcareous clay soils, the 2020 vintage was actually cooler than 2021 in this part of the world. That means that the Quintodecimo 2020 Fiano di Avellino Exultet greatly benefits from extra bottle age in order for it to show the brilliant orchard fruit, peach and poached pear aromas delivered here. The Quintodecimo 2018 Fiano di Avellino Exultet is soft and texturally rich with a 365-degree approach that wraps beautifully over all the senses. The wine is decadent and soft, yielding and powerful all at the same time. The aromas embrace peach, nectarine and Golden Delicious apple, with hints of toasted almond, yellow rose and exotic fruit. Exultet also shows a hint of crushed limestone or oyster shell that serves to frame the fruit and submit it to greater focus and sharpness. Some 33,000 bottles were released.
