So what's new? Once again, winemaker Paul Draper has produced five beautifully made, rich, distinctive Zinfandels.A blend of 78% Zinfandel, 10% Mataro (Mourvedre), 6% Petite Sirah, 3% Carignan, and 3% Alicante, the 1994 Zinfandel Sonoma possesses the lowest alcohol (13.6%) of this quintet. It reveals an attractive dark ruby/purple color, a sweet, overripe cherry/peppery nose, subtle earthy, terroir characteristics, full body, a broad, expansive feel on the palate, and a soft, low acid, clean, rich finish. It should drink well for 4-5 years. As usual, this is another terrific line-up of Zinfandels from Ridge.NOTE: All the wines in this article were tasted in May, 1996.Tel. (408) 867-3233
