The 2008 Ramshackle and Threadbare is a blend of 58% Roussanne, 40% Malvasia Bianca, and 2% Viognier aged in both new and neutral French oak. A tricky wine to assess, it possesses a buttery component intermixed with notes of white pepper and earth, and an unusual, almost freakish style that stood out like a sore thumb in my Central Coast tastings. There is a lot of character in this cuvee, but it is difficult to know in what direction it is moving. It seemed like it had just been bottled. This small artisanal winery is the brainchild of Matthias Pippig, who began this operation in 2004.Tel. (805) 640-9432
