Pale to medium ruby colored, the 2009 Home Pinot Noir gives notes of warm cranberries, pomegranate juice and baking spices with underlying underbrush and soy hints. Medium-bodied, and still quite youthful, the palate is just being to open beautifully, structured by a medium level of soft tannins and crisp acid, finishing long and minerally. Delicious now, it should continue to evolve over the next 3-5 years. I tasted a few of Seresin’s single vineyard 2009 Pinot Noirs again this year, to check how they were developing now that they were entering their drinking window. Produced with estate grown fruit from Seresin’s Home Vineyard, the 2009 Home Pinot Noir was naturally fermented and aged for 15 months in French oak barriques, 33% new. Ruby-purple in color, it has a slighted muted nose of warm raspberries and cranberries with hints of black pepper, tree bark and freshly tilled soil. Medium-full bodied, the palate gives a good concentration of earthy / savory flavors with crisp acidity, and chewy tannins. The berry flavors return in the long finish. Drink it now to 2015+. The 2008 Home Pinot Noir is a single vineyard wine coming from 19 year old vines, aged 15 months in French barrique, 35% new. Medium ruby colored, it has intense cherry and raspberry fruit aromas matched by earthy notes, black truffles, underbrush and moss covered tree bark. Whiffs of cassia and roses come through after a few minutes. Crisp, intense and earthy/spicy on the palate, this medium-full bodied wine has medium-firm fine tannins and a long finish. The 2007 Home Vineyard Pinot Noir has a limpid purple/ruby color. The nose is very pure and well defined with Doris plum, boysenberry and a touch of damson. Nice lift - really envelops the olfactory senses. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins, like the Leah, embracing some of Martinborough's broodier moments, lending it more complexity than its peers. Caressing towards the finish, very harmonious, although perhaps it could do with a little more persistency. Still, a top-level Marlborough Pinot. Michael Seresin's estate in Marlborough continues to go from strength to strength, exploring new techniques to apply biodynamic principles that are zealously pursued. This year, they have some intriguing micro-production Pinot Noirs that reach new heights of quality, if alas not quantity. Various US importers.
