Medium ruby-purple, the 2018 Pinot Noir Riddle Vineyard offers cranberries, rhubarb, licorice, tobacco leaves and graphite on the nose with loads of spicy accents. The palate is light-bodied, bright and juicy with loads of spicy uplift and a long finish with pleasant grip. 400 cases were made.

The 2017 Pinot Noir Riddle Vineyard, aged in 50% new French oak, has a pale to medium ruby color and a nose of pomegranate liqueur, cranberry jelly and blackberry candy with notions of dried orange peel, rose petals, blueberries and an earthy undercurrent. The palate is medium-bodied and silky with good intensity and layering, a grainy frame and well-woven freshness on the finish. 400 cases produced.

Pale ruby-purple colored, the 2016 Pinot Noir Riddle Vineyard features a beautiful perfume of rose hips, allspice and lavender over a core of crushed cranberries, red currants and pomegranate plus a touch of mossy bark. The medium to full-bodied is packed with spice laced red fruit preserves, framed by plush tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long.

The 2015 Pinot Noir Riddle Vineyard has a medium ruby-purple color and compelling nose of roses, kirsch, cranberry sauce and eucalypt plus touches of cloves and fallen leaves. The medium to full-bodied palate is packed with taut red berry and menthol-laced flavors, structured with ripe, firm, finely knit tannins and finishing in thought-provoking layers.

The 2014 Pinot Noir Riddle Vineyard comes from another Sonoma Coast site in the Green Valley of West Sonoma, this one planted in Goldridge soils. This is a different clonal mix than the other wines, with some Dijon clone 115 as well as the Pommard, but in addition, the Mt. Eden clone. More floral and elegant, with some minerality, soft, supple tannins, and excellent red and blue fruits, this wine has a kinship to an Anderson Valley Pinot Noir or perhaps a premier cru from the village of Chambolle-Musigny in Burgundy. (I do believe the Mt. Eden clone often resembles Musigny, so that seems to connect the dots on this particular effort.) This is a gentle beauty, very refined, complex and polished. Drink it over the next 5-6 years.
