The 2017 Pinot Noir Estate was made with 10% whole cluster and aged 14 months in 30% new French oak. Pale to medium ruby, it gives up bright scents of cranberry jelly, raspberry and strawberry jam, black tea leaves and blood orange with a lovely floral streak plus accents of rhubarb, cinnamon stick and dried leaves. Light to medium-bodied, it’s broody in the mouth with a soft frame and bright freshness, finishing long.

Pale to medium ruby-purple colored, the 2015 Pinot Noir Estate reveals a lovely perfume of lavender, dried Provence herbs and dried roses over a core of fresh cranberries and Bing cherries, plus a waft of cinnamon stick. Light to medium-bodied and with great elegance in the mouth, the perfumed red fruit is nicely framed by soft, fine-grained tannins and it finishes on an earthy note.

From the Arroyo Grande Valley and mostly from Rosemary's and Rincon Vineyards, the 2013 Pinot Noir Estate Arroyo Grande Valley saw 13 months in 30% new French oak. It's another classy, medium-bodied, well-made and juicy Pinot Noir that has classic Burgundian notes of sour cherries, rose petals and sappy underbrush. It doesn't have the same spark as the '12, but is nevertheless borderline outstanding and will drink nicely for 4-5 years.

Also superb, as well as a serious value, the 2012 Pinot Noir Estate Arroyo Grande Valley is a medium-bodied, elegant and pure effort that yields notions of cherry pit, dried flowers, rose petal and damp earth. There’s not much to go around, but it’s refined, integrated and perfectly balanced, and will drink nicely through 2020. It spent 13 months in 20% new French oak prior to bottling.

The 2011 Pinot Noir Estate Arroyo Grande is a pretty, balanced wine that has beautiful fruit and solid complexity. Sweet red cherries, strawberry, dried spices and plenty of underbrush round out this medium-bodied, supple effort that should drink nicely for 5-6 years. Drink now-2019. These knockout efforts are made by Brian Talley and were some of the most impressive Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs I tasted during my more than two week trip through the central coast.
