The 2018 Traslanzas seems to follow the path of 2015, with better integrated oak, getting away from the initial wines that were very tannic. This is ripe and powerful, creamy but with a chalky texture, fine-grained tannins and a grainy mouthfeel. It's not that far from a modern Ribera del Duero with measured oak. It should develop nicely in bottle.

Once again, I tasted the eponymous red 2015 Traslanzas, pure Tempranillo from 75-year-old vines. It's produced in a classical style: dark, ripe, powerful and generously oaked, with plenty of tannins and a somewhat dusty finish. The wine feels more harmonious, the oak is integrating slowly, and the tannins are more polished and the texture softer. 8,000 bottles were filled in August 2017.

I had not tasted their wines for a while, so they also sent me the 2011 Traslanzas, a wine that feels frozen in time; it's a powerful, concentrated and well-oaked Tempranillo with concentration, tannin and moderate acidity. There are some bitter notes in the finish. 9,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2013.

Traslanzas’s 2006 Tinto del Pais (Tempranillo) was sourced from a vineyard planted in 1945 and aged for 3 months in a mix of new and used French and American oak. Earthy black fruits, leather, mineral, and violets compose the nose of this slightly rustic effort. There is enough underlying structure for the wine to evolve for 3-4 years.
