The 2020 Roussanne James Berry Vineyard has a medium golden color and lush scents of baked peaches, honeycomb, flint and touches of ginger and dried herbs. The full-bodied palate is dry yet packed with honeyed tropical fruits. It is balanced by refreshing acidity and a touch of grip on the savory finish that will allow it to pair widely at the table, from halibut to cheese.

The 2019 Roussanne James Berry Vineyard is a lovely wine that combines rich flavor with energetic acidity. It has gregarious scents of apricot, quince and honeycomb and nuances of hazelnuts and chamomile. The full-bodied palate is surprisingly bright and lifted, with a concentrated core of orchard fruit, expansive honeyed flavors and a long, pleasantly grippy finish.

The 2013 Roussanne James Berry Vineyard is a rich, full-flavored beauty that offers up lots of golden apple, buttered citrus and honeyed notes to go with a medium-bodied, nicely concentrated feel on the palate. Brought up in close to equal parts new French oak, neutral barrels and concrete, it has good acidity and a clean finish. Drink it over the coming 3-4 years.

Outstanding, yet a touch less impressive (and more expensive), the 2012 Roussanne James Berry Vineyard is 100% Roussanne and was aged half in concrete and half in barrel. Showing plenty of lemon and peach fruit, lees, fresh creme and toast on the nose and palate, it is a rich, rounded effort that has juicy acidity and solid richness. Enjoy it over the coming couple of years. Drink now-2016. One of my favorite estates, Cris Cherry’s Villa Creek is located on the western side of Paso Robles, high up off Peachy Canyon Road. He continues to experiment with Rhone and increasingly Spanish (think Rioja and Priorat) varieties, as well as with varying amount of whole-cluster inclusion. A beautiful, deeply expressive wine, the 2010 Roussanne James Berry Vineyard captures the pure pedigree of this great Paso Robles site. There is a richness and lushness of the fruit that is quite appealing yet all the elements are very nicely balanced. Sweet floral, honeyed notes add richness on the finish. Proprietor Cris Cherry aged the Roussanne in a combination of oak and concrete. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2015. Villa Creek is one of my favorite wineries in Paso Robles.
