The 2009 Pinot Noir Gran Terroir was fermented in small, open-top stainless steel vats preceded by a 10-day cold maceration. It was then aged for 11 months in 35% new French oak. Medium ruby red in color, it displays noticeable oak in its bouquet. This overshadows some pleasant spicy red fruit aromas and floral notes. In the glass it displays ample sweet red fruit and spicy flavors but the finish is moderately clipped by the excessive oak. If the oak better integrates, the wine will merit a higher rating but whether that will happen remains to be seen. The Vina Agustinos wines are from the cool region of Bio Bio located 500 km south of Santiago and 50 km from the coast with a significant influence from the sea.Importer: JW Deutsch & Son, White Plains, NY; tel.
