The 2008 Gran Viu Garnacha del Terreno was sourced from vines averaging 93 years of age and aged in seasoned French oak for 26 months. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it offers up notions of wood smoke, mineral, Asian spices, incense, black cherry, and black raspberry. The purple-colored 2006 Gran Viu Garnacha del Terreno is sourced from 94-year-old Garnacha vines aged for 22 months in a mix of new and second use French oak. It exhibits a fragrant bouquet of cedar, spice box, lavender, mineral, and black cherry. Smooth-textured with underlying ripe tannin, it is a finesse-styled wine which should blossom nicely over the next 2-3 years and drink well through 2018. Vinedos y Bodegas Pablo offers several excellent red and white wine values that are noted in Issue 181. The 2004 Gran Viu Garnacha del Terreno is 100% Garnacha from 92-year-old vines. It spent 22 months in a mix of new and used French oak. It provides an alluring perfume of wood smoke, mineral, plum, and black cherry. Broad on the palate with considerable depth, the wine is densely fruited and rich. Drink this plush, lengthy wine now through 2020. Vinedos y Bodegas Pablo fared well in last year’s tastings. These releases from the outstanding 2004 vintage are equally good. Controlled, expressive and impressive for Garnacha. Dark fruit and dark spice are the lead actors, while the supporting cast includes a lush feel and good length.
