The estate wines include the 2008 Sauvignon Blanc Vineyard 29, one of Napa’s most extraordinary Sauvignons. Sadly, fewer than 200 cases were produced. Barrel-fermented and aged in new French oak, it exhibits exotic tropical fruit notes along with honeyed, medium-bodied, dry, crisp, steely, flinty flavors. This beautiful Sauvignon Blanc displays the potential of these estate vineyards on the western hillsides north of St. Helena.
Proprietors Chuck and Ann McMinn have added another wine to their portfolio of Cru wines. The Cru offerings, which are made from purchased fruit, are meant to be stylish Napa Valley wines that sell for reasonable prices. Presumably, they are aimed at both consumers and restaurants looking for a very good Napa wine that won’t break the bank.
