It is hard to believe, but Coche-Dury's 1989 Corton-Charlemagne is even better than his spectacular 1986. Unbelievably concentrated, it exhibits superb depth, good acidity, and a penetrating earthy, mineral quality. The finish lasts over a minute. It may have more structure and aging potential than the 1986, which is just now beginning to reach its peak of maturity. Given the world-wide interest in the micro-quantities produced of this wine, it will be nearly impossible to find.
Jean-Francois Coche-Dury is one of the greatest winemakers on planet Earth. He continues to produce dazzling wines from unbelievably tiny yields, taking the maximum risk by bottling his wines with no filtration. His spectacular 1989s are worth a special effort to obtain.
