A pretty, balanced and lively white, the 2012 Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc L’Insolente is a 100% Roussanne that was aged in 20% new oak. You wouldn’t know it though, as it offers up only subtle toasty notes to go with pure white peach and assorted honeyed fruits on the nose. Possessing juicy acidity, a layered mouth-feel and excellent focus on the finish, it should drink nicely for at least 3-4 years. Drink now-2018.
Covering close to 35 acres in Chateauneuf du Pape, this estate is run by the three Cellier brothers, Ludovics, Julien and Benoit. They release a number of cuvees, all of which are unique blends. The emphasis here is generally on up-front fruit and all of the 2012s reviewed here should be ready to go on release. Unfortunately, no 2011s were presented for tasting.
